Pills and doctors are the first things we think about when we are sick. But God gave us practically everything we need to heal what ails us, as well as prevent us from becoming sick in the first place. Herbal products are a part of holistic health and medicine. We now have choices. We don't always have to run to the doctor or take a pill to feel better. There are many natural herbs that we can take to help our bodies heal and stay healthy. Many of these have been used in other countries for many years. Our country has had restrictions on alternative treatments and herbal remedies until recently. Herbs are considered safe because toxic side effects are rare. Here is a list of herbs and their uses.

-basil - topically for acne kills bacteria (steeped in boiling water, let cool)

-reishi mushroom - antihistamine for allergies

-asparagus - high in folic acid, stimulates the production of red blood cells so eaten daily it can treat anemia, anti-inflammatory for arthritis.

-tea tree oil - skin antiseptic and disinfectant

- chives - high in Vitamin C and iron

- dandelion - natural diuretic, it rids the body of excess fluid, also helps prevent iron deficiency anemia.

-balm - calms, a mild tranquilizer effect, in tea

-catnip - in a tea (don't boil the water, use hot water) mild tranquilizer effect, good for fighting bronchitis, anti-diarrheal

- chamomile - mild tranquilizer, drink as a tea, anti-inflammatory for arthritis, relief of insomnia and backache

- primrose oil - effective treatment against arthritis, calms, also effective against symptoms of PMS, may also aid in lowering cholesteral

- lavender - aromatherapy for relaxation. In a tea, mild tranquilizer effect.

- passionflower - tranquilizer effect, relieves muscle tension, insomnia and headache.

- St. John's wort - anti-anxiety and muscle relaxer

- buther's broom - anti-inflammatory for arthritis

- eucalyptus oil -cough suppressant, anti-inflammatory for arthritis, topically.

- ginger - good for treating nausea and motion sickness, also has anti-inflammatory properties.

-licorice - pain relief, anti-inflammatory, helps psoriasis, helps sore throat

-jasmine - helps against sexual dysfunction and impotence (as an oil)


-cocoa - treatment of mild asthma

- coffee - treatment of mild asthma, too much causes nervousness, increased heart rate and insomnia.

- ginkgo - increases blood flow, decreases blood clots, treatment of mild asthma, fights heart disease, fights impotence

- parsley - expectorant, cough suppressant and treatment of mild asthma, diuretic, fights bad breath
warning: pregnant women should avoid parsley juice and oils.

- apple cider vinegar - good for treatment of athlete's foot

- garlic -antibiotic properties, works against athlete's foot, regulates blood sugar, fights earache, blood thinner

- mustard oil - relief of arthritis and backache

- alfalfa- breath freshener, laxative

-echinacea - fights infections, colds, bronchitis, helps heal wounds. boosts immune system, fights earache, helps psoriasis and sunburn

-goldenseal- antibiotic

-horseradish - cough expectorant

-aloe vera - healing and relief of burns (first and second degree),sunburns, wounds and poison ivy

-cayenne - high in vitamin C, fights colds, anti- inflammatory agent

-elderberry - fights colds

-cascara - laxative

-olive oil - laxative, fights dandruff

-phyllium - laxative

- cinnamin - antiseptic

-onion - antiseptic, antifungal, lowers cholesteral

- rosemary- fights dandruff and headache

-celery seed- regulates blood sugar

- sage - regulates blood sugar

-ginseng- lowers blood sugar, fights impotence

-feverfew - fights headache

-peppermint - helps insomnia

-juniper - diuretic

-witch hazel- good for cuts, sunburn

-allspice- helps toothache

-clove - helps toothache

-cranberry - helps fight urinary tract infections
