This dessert looks as good as it tastes. Not to be confused with a truffle, a trifle is created by layering ingredients in a glass pedestal bowl that somewhat resembles an oversized brandy snifter. The container needs to be deep enough to accommodate all of the tiers, and constructed of clear glass for maximum eye appeal.
One by one, layers of chocolate pound cake, chocolate syrup, chocolate pudding, whipped cream and toffee candy bits combine to create a rich, decadent dessert. Its consistency is gooey and smooth, and it almost melts in your mouth. Follow this recipe and you’ll see that it’s hard to resist:
2 chocolate pound cakes (fresh, or frozen and thawed), cubed
1 large and 1 small package of instant milk chocolate pudding, prepared ahead of time
½ cup of coffee-flavored liqueur, added to thickened pudding
2, 8-ounce containers of non-dairy whipped topping
2 packages of toffee candy bits
1 can chocolate syrup
In a large trifle bowl, begin layering ingredients:
Layer #1: 1 chocolate pound cake, cubed
Layer #2: ½ of the prepared milk chocolate pudding with coffee liqueur
Layer #3: ½ of the non-dairy whipped topping
Layer #4: ½ of the toffee candy bits
Layer #5: ½ of the chocolate syrup, drizzled over the previous ingredients
With the remaining ingredients, repeat Layers 1 through 5 and refrigerate overnight.
