Just like everything else for your infant, you'll want your nursery to be perfect! There are a lot of choices to be made when decorating. This can be a lot of fun...and expensive if you don't take it one step at a time.

Start by choosing baby furniture. This will be the most expensive part of the nursery. You will need a crib, dresser and possibly a changing table. If you decide to borrow furniture, make sure the crib meets the US Consumer Products Safety Standards.

The second most important part of the crib is the mattress. Since your baby will be spending a lot of time in the crib, the mattress is essential to your infant's comfort and safety. You get what you pay for so this is not the place to budget your money. You want to get a good quality mattress.

After selecting furniture, you need to choose a dominant color and/or theme for the nursery. You have a wide variety of choices, from Winnie the Pooh to Noah's Ark. Once you decide, go out and find coordinating accessories such as; bedding, valences, borders or wallpaper, lamps, mobiles, diaper stacker, etc.

If the wallpaper or borders are too expensive, you can paint them yourself. Stencils come in a variety of designs and are very easy to paint. You can choose your color and design and then create your own personal border for minimal cost!

You can save yourself money by buying some theme accessories and the rest in a solid color that matches the theme. Accessories in a theme print are more costly than a solid color and the room still looks great! Look for accessories and decorations at garage sales and second-hand stores. Discontinued themes usually tend to cost a lot less because the stores are trying to get rid of supplies. You can find some great bargains if you keep your eyes open!

By shopping around, you can save yourself a lot of money while decorating the perfect nursery for your baby! The following checklist will help you while you decorate so you don't miss a thing.
