How To Make Soap
A simple procedure to make soap at home.
Things you will need
Stainless steel pot
A mold (with cover)
1 cup Lye
3 cups distilled water
2 cups coconut oil
2 cups olive oil
3½ cups Lard or vegetable oil (solid)
¼ cup Essential oils
Petroleum jelly (Optional)
What to do
Step 1: Dissolve the lye in water. (This may heat up a bit and fumes may be given off so work in a well ventilated area.) Allow the mixture to cool.
Step 2: Melt the lard or vegetable oil in the stainless steel pot. Add the coconut oil and olive oil then allow the mixture to cool.
Step 3: Grease the soap mold with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil
Step 4: When the two mixtures become lukewarm (about 90º), pour the lye into the oil with constant stirring. The mixture should become creamy and the consistency should chance as saponification occurs.
Step 5: Add the essential oils slowly with constant stirring.
Step 6: Pour the mixture in the prepared mold. Cover the mold and wrap it in the towels to keep it warm and leave undisturbed for 3 days. The temperature will increase. Do not remove the cover until it is cooled.
Step 7: Remove the soap from the mold and cut into smaller pieces. Allow your soap to air cure for 3-4 weeks.
