Old Time Crafts
Ideas for old time craft projects that are old-fashioned but still fun, including popsicle stick buildings and pipe cleaner animals.
Some things get better with age, like cheese and fine wine. But this also applies to the things that we played with as children. There are some very creative craft projects you can do with simple items that are cheap and easily available. If you want your child’s imagination to be sparked, have them put down the Power Rangers action figures and try out some of these fun, old-fashioned crafts.
Popsicle Stick Buildings
You only need a bag of popsicle sticks and glue for this project. Popsicle sticks can be bought in bags at your grocery store or even a book store. Use the sticks like building blocks to make all sorts of buildings. You are only limited by your imagination. Make a mini town with a bridge and benches. You can use your action figures to inhabit your new town. For added creativity you can use colored markers to “paint” your buildings.
Pipe Cleaner Animals
Like the popsicle sticks, you can buy pipe cleaners at the grocery store, hardware store or find them in the children’s section of many local book stores. Pipe cleaners come in a wide variety of colors and are big and fuzzy. Use them to make people or animals by twisting them together into different shapes. You can even make pipe cleaner animals for your popsicle stick village.
All you need for this one is a piece of construction paper, some glue, and a bag of lima beans. Draw a picture on the construction paper using a pencil. Then take glue and attach the beans to your construction paper over your pencil markings. You can then take colored markers and color your beans to add flair to your finished project.
These are just a few simple craft ideas, but they show that you can have fun with simple everyday items and not spend a fortune.
