Information On Radishes As A Natural Remedy
Radish -- a natural remedy that aids digestion, heals respiratory infections and helps in the efficient production of hormones.
Radish has been recorded as a healing food since ancient Egypt and China. It contains mustard oils that stimulate the liver to induce the gallbladder to secrete bile that aids in digestion and good nutritional absorption.
The mustard oils also have antibacterial properties that help heal respiratory infections and loosen mucus buildup in the airways. Drinking radish juice, eating raw radish, or gargling radish juice can help relieve sore throat, colds and coughs, tonsillitis, and bronchitis.
Recent researches have shown that aside from vitamin C, calcium, and potassium, radish also contains a compound called "raphanin" which helps the thyroid gland in the healthy release of necessary hormones.
Here's how to use radish as a natural remedy:
To relieve chronic cough and respiratory problems: Mix 2 tbsp. of honey and half a cup of fresh radish juice. Mix well and store in a dark place. Take 2 tsp. as cough syrup, thrice a day.
To relieve liver and gallbladder problems: Squeeze the juice from 2 lbs. of radish (preferably the dark winter variety because it is more potent than the other varieties). Add honey to taste. Store the juice in a bottle, in a cool place. Drink a cup of the juice once a day for three days.
To aid in digestion: Steep ¼ cup of chopped radish leaves in a cup of boiling water for 20 minutes. Strain. Add honey to taste. Drink the tea as desired.
