8 3-oz tenderized veal steaks
4 thin slices ham
4 slices Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 c vegetable oil
1 egg
1 tbsp water
salt and pepper to taste
garlic salt and onion salt to taste
1 c cracker crumbs
mushroom sauce

Layer 1 veal steak, 1 slice ham, 1 slice cheese, and top with another veal steak for each stack, trimming edges of ham and cheese smaller than steak. Press edges together securely. Heat oil in heavy frying pan. Beat egg with water. Dip steak stacks into egg mixture. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic salt, and onion salt; roll in crumbs. Fry on each side until golden brown; transfer to casserole dish. Bake in preheated 325-degree oven for 30 minutes. Serve with mushroom sauce.

1 c medium white sauce
1 c sliced mushrooms
1 tbsp grated onion

Mix white sauce, mushrooms, and onion in saucepan. Cook, stirring, for about 3 minutes.
