These little hors d’oeuvres are made on slices of cocktail rye bread. And, there's no tomato sauce or mozzarella cheese. But, combine the ingredients of this fascinating finger food, and you'll think you're eating the real thing. Just mix, spread, sprinkle and broil. They're easy and delicious!

For an appetizer that will leave your guests marveling, begin with the following ingredients:

2 Loaves of Cocktail Rye Bread, sliced
1 32-ounce Jar of Mayonnaise (must be real mayonnaise)
1 8-ounce Container of Parmesan Cheese
8 Ounces Canned, Chopped Mushroom Pieces*

Line two cookie sheets with aluminum foil. Place slices of cocktail rye bread on the foil in a single layer, arranging them in tight rows, until the entire cookie sheet is full.

In a large bowl, mix all of the mayonnaise with all of the Parmesan cheese. This mixture should have a pasty consistency. With a knife or small rubber spatula, spread a generous layer of the mayonnaise and Parmesan cheese mixture on each slice of rye bread. For each piece of bread, drop four or five mushroom pieces on top of the mixture, and sprinkle liberally with paprika.

Place pizzas under the broiler for no more than 2 to 3 minutes, or until brown. Keep a watchful eye on these, as they cook up quickly. Serve warm or refrigerate and reheat.

*You may substitute an 8-ounce can of artichoke hearts for the mushrooms. Chop the artichokes, and for best results, mix directly into the mayonnaise spread.
