4 tablespoons butter (1/2 stick)
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 9-inch pie shell
2 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup sugar


Melt butter, and add brown sugar and 1/4 cup of milk; cook for 5 minutes. Mix flour and 1 cup of milk; add beaten eggs and vanilla. Add this mixture to the other mixture and cook until thick and smooth. Pour into pie shell. Let cool

Preheat oven to 350.

Beat egg whites, vanilla, and cream of tartar until soft peaks form; add sugar and continue beating until stiff. Spread on cooled pie, sealing to pastry.

Bake for 12–15 minutes until brown.
