Serves 4


1 1/2 lbs. tart green apples, peeled, cored, and cut into thick wedges
2 tbsp. water
1/2 oz. saltless butter
2 oz. soft brown sugar
1 tsp. Jamaican allspice
6 oz. all-purpose flour, sifted
4 oz. salted butter
2 oz. rolled oats
2 oz. soft brown sugar
icing sugar for dusting


Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C). Boil apple wedges in water and saltless butter until softened, about 10 minutes. Add Jamaican allspice. Mix well.

Spoon apple mixture into a deep, 3-cup pudding dish. Set aside.

Using a food processor, combine flour, salted butter, rolled oats, and soft brown sugar. Spoon oat mixture on top of the apples. Press lightly and push to the edges. Bake for 20 minutes until topping is golden brown. Dust with icing sugar and serve hot with custard.
