If you’re planning a party, or you’re a professional bartender, knowing how to stock a basic bar is necessary information. Of course, you will need to adjust the amounts based on your personal knowledge of guests or customers, but here are some basic guidelines to make your event a success.

* Vodka, 2 liters
* Gin, 2 liters
* Scotch, 2 liters
* Rum, I liter
* Whiskey, 1 liter
* White Wine, 6 bottles
* Red Wine, 4 bottles
* Orange Juice, 1 gallon
* Cranberry Juice, 1 gallon
* Pineapple Juice, 1 gallon
* Grapefruit Juice, 1/2 gallon
* Tonic, 2 liters
* Seltzer, 2 liters
* Cola, 2 liters
* Diet Cola, 2 liters
* Gingerale, 2 liters
* Lemon-lime Soda, 2 liters
* Ice, 35 pounds.

You will also want to make sure you have plenty of glasses (either disposable plastic and paper or fine glass depending on the occasion), a good corkscrew, jigger measures, a strainer, bar or hand towels, and garnishes along with your liquors and mixers. Garnishes such as olives, maraschino cherries, lemon and lime wedges, and swizzle sticks are often understocked by those new to serving drinks, and are an indispensable item in ensuring a successful afternoon or evening.
