As controversial as her life has been, Julia Roberts has learned to rise above the gossip and give us outstanding performances in her films.
Julie Fiona Roberts was born on October 28, 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia. She is one of three children. She has one brother and sister, Eric and Lisa.
She has appeared in over sixty movies with her most memorable role in the film "Pretty Woman" which also co-starred actor Richard Gere. The movie that launched her movie career was "Steel Magnolias," where she played a desperate woman who tried to hold her wandering husband by having his child despite the fact that she could die from the complications of diabetes after having a child against her doctor’s orders. This movie also starred Sally Field, Olivia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Tom Skerrit. Miss Roberts has also appeared in movies made for television as well as sitcoms. So far, she has won over five awards for her outstanding performances in both dramatic and comedy roles.
She has had a controversial private life, which has changed since she went into seclusion to get her priorities straight. Critics were dubious as to whether Miss Roberts would make a come back since she would have to start over at the bottom of the acting rung. She proved them wrong and is in demand once again to make movies.
Between films, Miss Roberts spends her time between her Manhattan, New York apartment and her fifty-acre ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
Miss Roberts is engaged to be married to actor Benjamin Bratt. A wedding date has not yet been set. She was married before very briefly to Country Western singer Lyle Lovett. She has also been romantically linked with actor Matthew Perry from the television series "Friends," which she appeared in for one episode.
