Jane Fonda Biography
Jane Fonda is known for her controversial work that she makes against different causes. She is also known for her exercise videos and her acting career.
Jane Seymour Fonda was born on December 21, 1937 in New York City, New York. Her father is the famous actor Henry Fonda and her brother is actor Peter Fonda. After graduating high school, Miss Fonda attended Vassar College.
In 1954, Fonda made her acting debut in the play "The Country Girl" which co-starred her father. Young Fonda didn’t show any interest in acting until 1958 when she met Lee Strasberg who was affiliated with the Actors Studio in New York. Miss Fonda joined and took acting lessons while she pursued a modeling career.
In 1960, she made her Broadway debut in the play "There Was a Little Girl" which co-starred her father. In the same year, she made her film debut was in the movie "Tall Story."
On August 14, 1965, Fonda married director Roger Vadim who exploited her physical beauty in films. After their marriage was over in 1973, Miss Fonda pursued more adult and serious roles. She also became very politically involved in causes that caught her attention such as protesting against the Vietnam Conflict. During this time, Fonda met her second husband Tom Hayden. They were wed in 1973 and divorced in 1989. Because of her outspoken efforts against the Vietnam conflict, Miss Fonda because known as a representative on civil rights and women’s issues. Through all of her energetic efforts, Fonda was still making movies.
In 1970, Miss Fonda was arrested and allegedly charged with drug smuggling because of the large number of pills she was carrying. All charges were dropped when the "pills" were identified as vitamins.
After appearing in the film "On Golden Pond" in 1982, Miss Fonda’s career took another turn. She turned her efforts to exercise, yoga and weight loss. She made exercise videos and since her marriage to Tom Hayden had hit rock bottom, she filed for divorce.
Fonda’s life took another turn in 1991 when she married Ted Turner on her birthday. She then became immersed in environmental issues.
In 1992, Miss Fonda retired from acting after making over seventy films during her career.
In 1997, Fonda joined forces with a condom manufacturer to promote safe sex for teens that are sexually active.
Currently Miss Fonda is separated from her husband and lives by herself on her ranch.
